Halloween rooted in Yorkshire
The daylight goes. The stories stay.
This is not a haunted-house attraction. The evening works because the places are real.
We leave York at 4pm and head first to Crayke, then Byland Abbey, where a monk recorded a remarkable collection of ghost stories around the year 1400.
Helmsley is the main evening stop, with time for food or a drink. After that we travel through Castle Howard country and stop at Sheriff Hutton before returning to York around 11pm.

Byland Abbey
Ruined abbey walls and the landscape where medieval ghost stories were written down more than six centuries ago.
Helmsley
The main stop of the evening, with time for food or a drink and a look around the old town and castle area after dark.
Castle Howard country
A night-time drive through the estate landscape as we turn back towards York.
Sheriff Hutton
Broken medieval towers above the village for one final historic stop before the short journey back to York.

Pick-up in York
We collect you from your hotel or agreed York-area pick-up point and head north as the autumn afternoon begins to fade.
Crayke
Our first stop at St Cuthbert's Church and the old hilltop village.
Byland Abbey
Time around the ruined abbey and the history of the medieval ghost stories recorded here around 1400.
Helmsley
The longest stop, with time for food or a drink followed by the town and castle area after dark.
Castle Howard country
A drive through the estate landscape as the countryside settles into night.
Sheriff Hutton
One final ruined stronghold before we turn back towards York.
Return to York
We return you to your agreed York-area drop-off point.

These stories were here long before Halloween became an attraction.
Around the year 1400, a monk at Byland Abbey recorded a collection of twelve ghost stories. They are among the most striking surviving accounts of medieval supernatural belief in England.
The stories are tied to lanes, fields and villages around the abbey. We use them as history and folklore, not as an excuse for staged scares.

How much does Haunted Yorkshire After Dark cost?
The full price is £386.90 for your private group of up to four guests. That works out at £96.73 per person when four guests travel. The FareHarbor booking fee is included.
When does the Halloween tour run?
The seasonal tour runs from 4 October to 6 November, subject to live availability.
How long is the tour?
Approximately seven hours, normally from 4:00pm until around 11:00pm.
Where does the tour go?
York, Crayke, Byland Abbey, Helmsley, Castle Howard country and Sheriff Hutton, then back to York.
Is this a private tour?
Yes. Every booking is private for your own group, with a maximum of four guests. No other passengers join the tour.
Is this a staged ghost or horror attraction?
No. There are no actors or jump scares. The evening is built around real historic places, Yorkshire folklore and travelling through the countryside after dark.
Do we stop for food?
Yes. Helmsley is the main evening stop and there is time for food or a drink. Food and drink are paid separately.
Are attraction admissions included?
No. The itinerary is built around outdoor historic places, towns, ruins and the road after normal daytime visiting hours. Paid admissions are not included.
What happens if the weather is poor?
We can make sensible changes where an outdoor stop becomes impractical while keeping the overall route and character of the evening.
