  • York Minster and the old city — a dramatic starting point for York’s layered past.
  • Treasurer’s House area — Roman soldier legends and one of York’s best-known ghost stories.
  • St Giles Church, Skelton — a quieter stop with an older, more rural atmosphere.
  • Byland Abbey — ruined abbey walls, folklore and a strong sense of place.
  • Helmsley or a nearby scenic stop — time for photos, a short wander or a comfort break.
  • Return to York — with the option to finish near Dick Turpin’s Grave or Clifford’s Tower if timing allows.
