What is a private sightseeing transfer from York?
A private sightseeing transfer combines the practical job of getting you from A to B with the enjoyable part of travelling through Yorkshire.
You are collected from your accommodation or airport with your luggage. We then follow a planned route, stopping at places that genuinely make sense on the way. Depending on your destination, that might mean:
- Historic abbeys and ruins
- Yorkshire market towns
- Moorland roads and viewpoints
- Coastal villages and harbours
- Brontë Country
- Waterfalls and Dales scenery
- Cathedral cities
- A proper lunch stop
At the end of the day, we take you directly to your next hotel or agreed airport terminal.
The transfer is completely private for one group of up to four guests. There is no coach group, no sharing with strangers and no fixed sightseeing schedule designed for somebody else.

Where can you travel from York?
We have published a range of routes that work particularly well as sightseeing transfers. Most are available in either direction, so you can travel from York or travel towards York.
York and Harrogate
The route between York and Harrogate can include Fountains Abbey, historic Ripon, Nidderdale and Pateley Bridge.
You get one of Yorkshire’s great historic sites, a proper market-town lunch stop and a change of landscape before arriving at your next hotel.
York and Leeds Bradford Airport
When your flight time allows, the Leeds Bradford Airport transfer can include Fountains Abbey, Harrogate and Knaresborough.
Airport timings always come first. We cannot promise that the full route will suit every flight, but shorter versions can be planned when needed.
York and Whitby
This route heads east through Kirkham Priory, Malton, Hutton-le-Hole, Goathland and Robin Hood’s Bay before finishing in Whitby.
It is a full Yorkshire sightseeing journey, not a straight run to the coast. You can see abbey ruins, enjoy lunch in Malton, cross the North York Moors and reach the sea before checking into your accommodation.
York and Scarborough
Travel towards Scarborough via Kirkham Priory, Malton, Pickering, Thornton-le-Dale and the southern edge of the North York Moors.
It gives you a mixture of history, food, market-town character and open countryside before your coastal stay begins.
York and Manchester
The Manchester route crosses Yorkshire through Haworth, Brontë Country, Penistone Hill and Hebden Bridge.
You can explore Haworth, stop for lunch, see the moorland around the village and continue through the Pennines rather than spending the entire journey on the quickest road.
York and Manchester Airport
Arriving through Manchester or flying home from there? When your flight schedule allows, we can build Haworth and Brontë Country into the airport transfer.
For departures, your required airport arrival time comes first. For arrivals, we confirm collection details around your flight and baggage collection. It is always worth asking.
York and Durham
The route north can include Fountains Abbey and Richmond, with time for a proper lunch and a look around Richmond before continuing to Durham.
You are not just heading up the A1. You are seeing some of northern Yorkshire on the way.
York and Newcastle
This transfer can include Richmond and Durham, with time for Durham Cathedral, the historic city centre and lunch before your Newcastle hotel.
Newcastle is where the day finishes, not where the sightseeing starts.
York and the Lake District
The longest published route travels across the Yorkshire Dales, with stops such as Grassington, Wharfedale, Aysgarth Falls and Hawes before continuing west.
This is a genuine cross-Dales touring day. It can work for destinations including Kendal, Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside and Grasmere, subject to the exact route and availability.
What happens to your luggage?
Your luggage travels with you throughout the day.
You do not need to leave cases in a station locker, carry them through several connections or wait until late afternoon to check in. We collect you with your luggage and take it directly to your next accommodation or airport.
There is one practical point to mention: the vehicle carries up to four guests, but passenger capacity and luggage capacity are not quite the same thing.
If you are travelling with several large suitcases, cases, golf bags or other bulky items, tell us before booking. We will confirm whether the journey is suitable and avoid any awkward surprises on the morning.
Honestly, it is a small detail, but it matters.
Is lunch included?
Full sightseeing transfers include time for a sensible lunch stop. Food and drinks are paid for separately.
Where the route naturally passes through a good food destination, we build that into the plan. Malton, Haworth, Richmond, Durham and Hawes are all useful places to stop, depending on the journey and your interests.
You can tell us if you prefer a relaxed café, a traditional pub, a market-town lunch or something quick so you can spend longer sightseeing.
The day still needs to run to a realistic schedule, particularly when an airport is involved. But there should be time to eat properly rather than grabbing something from a station kiosk while watching the clock.
Can the route be changed?
Often, yes.
The published routes show journeys that work well geographically, but they are not intended to be rigid scripts. We can discuss changes around:
- Your interests

- Weather
- Attraction opening times
- Flight schedules
- Lunch preferences
- How much walking you want
- Places you have already visited
Want more history? Fine.
Want more scenery? No problem.
Want to spend longer in a market town and skip an attraction? It is worth asking.
We do need to keep the route realistic. Yorkshire is larger than it can look on a map, and a day can become a bit daft if too many stops are added. We would rather suggest a comfortable itinerary than promise everything and leave you racing from place to place.
