Start beside the River Nidd in beautiful Knaresborough, then travel west into Brontë Country for Haworth, the Parsonage area and the open moorland above the village. It is literary Yorkshire, but there is plenty more to the day than books.
Two sides of Yorkshire

I wanted this tour to do more than simply drive you to Haworth and back again. Knaresborough gives the morning a completely different feel before we head west into Brontë Country.
We begin above the River Nidd with time for Knaresborough's historic streets, castle area and famous viaduct views. If opening arrangements allow, we can also visit the remarkable Chapel of Our Lady of the Crag, carved directly into the rock beside the river.
From there we travel across Yorkshire to Haworth. This is the main part of the day, with around two hours and fifteen minutes in the village for Main Street, lunch, the Brontë Parsonage area, the church and time to explore at your own pace.
We then head above the village to Penistone Hill. You do not need to be a serious walker. It is about seeing the landscape, taking in the views and getting a sense of the moorland that surrounds Haworth.
The tour works out at £102.03 per person when four guests share. The full online price is £408.10 for your private group of up to four, including the FareHarbor booking fee. York-area collection and return are included, so there is no meeting-point puzzle and no need to hire a car.
Into Brontë Country
The village matters. So does everything around it.
Haworth's history is fascinating, but what I particularly like about bringing people here is how quickly the village gives way to open countryside. Seeing both makes the Brontë story much easier to understand.

Why Knaresborough?
Because Haworth does not need to be the only good part of the day.
Knaresborough is one of those places that immediately looks like Yorkshire. The town sits above the River Nidd, with the railway viaduct stretching across the valley below.
Starting here means the day begins somewhere completely different from Haworth rather than filling the journey with another literary stop just for the sake of it.
The Chapel of Our Lady of the Crag is an especially good little detour when it is open. It is small, unusual and very easy to miss if you do not know it is there. Exactly the kind of place I enjoy including on a Highwayman Tours day.
Then we move on. Haworth still gets the time it deserves.

How long is the tour?
Approximately eight hours. A standard day normally starts at around 10:00 and returns to York at around 18:00, although traffic and the pace of the day can affect the exact time.
Where do you pick us up?
York-area hotel or accommodation collection and return are included. We will confirm your exact collection details before the tour.
Is there enough time in Haworth?
Yes. Haworth is the main part of the day and we allow around two hours and fifteen minutes there, followed by approximately thirty minutes at Penistone Hill. Timings can move slightly depending on traffic, conditions and your group's pace.
Is Brontë Parsonage Museum admission included?
No. Museum admission is optional and is not included in the tour price, so you can decide whether you would like to visit or use that time elsewhere in Haworth.
Will we go inside the Chapel of Our Lady of the Crag?
We include the chapel area in the route, but access inside depends on opening arrangements on the day. If the interior is unavailable, the riverside location can still form part of the Knaresborough visit.
Is this a hiking tour?
No. This is primarily a private driven sightseeing tour. There are short walks at the stops and some historic or rural surfaces may be uneven, but you are not expected to complete a long hike.
Can the day be flexible?
Yes. The route has a planned structure because it still needs to fit comfortably into eight hours, but a private tour gives us more freedom around your pace, lunch, photographs and reasonable changes on the day.
